A large number of people in India are still not aware of climate change. At the same time, according to the United Nations, there will be more than 250 million environmental refugees in the world by 2030 due to global warming. So if you don't wake up now, then maybe the dawn will never happen. Environment cannot be saved just by taking pictures and promoting in the media. We have to make sincere efforts if we don't want to be environmental refugees.

Many people in developing countries are suffering from droughts and windstorms on a scale never seen before, depriving them of daily food and basic needs.  The term "environmental refugees" or “climate refugees” was first coined to describe the increasing large-scale migration and cross-border mass movements of people that were partly caused by such weather-related disasters. The term “environmental refugees” is one of the many phrases that are used to describe people who move due to changes in the environment around them. The relationship between the environment and human movement is complex, and for that reason there are a number of different phrases and definitions. Earlier there were only war refugees but now there are environmental refugees. In African countries such as Sudan and Somalia, more people have been forced into refugee lives than civil wars due to natural disasters. The water sources in their villages dried up, their cattle died due to non-availability of water, and their own lives were in danger. Due to which he was forced to leave his village, home and take refuge in other countries. But this displacement of them is illegal because the law to give asylum to environmental refugees has not yet been made in any country. Such refugees, even though they are real refugees, are neither called refugees nor do they get any help. It is predicted that due to environmental change, by 2050, about 140 million people from Africa, Latin America and South Asia will leave their mainland and migrate to other lands as environmental refuges. Environmental refugees are also increasing in India. These refugees are leaving their villages due to unavailability of water and wandering in search of work in big cities and trying to survive as daily wage laborers. Let us see an example of this, that there are reports of farmers committing suicide every day. The government gives all possible help to the farmers. Then why this committed suicide? If seen by taking off the political glasses, then the reason will be understood. After all, with the help of money given by the government, neither crop can be grown nor can it be saved. Water is a basic requirement for growing crops. We are which almost going to lose.
The heat falling since the beginning of April has broken its previous records. Water sources are drying up fast or their water level is continuously falling. We cannot escape our obligations by keeping a handful of grains and a sack of water for the birds leading a free life in the trees and puddles. As long as we have enough water to quench our thirst, we will be able to give a little water to the birds, but our thirst is now in danger. We have created a serious crisis for the present generation by throwing an ax at our feet. Indiscriminate felling of trees, unlimited extraction of sand from rivers, limiting the number of vehicles emitting toxic gas, extreme pressure of population growth on the food supply are the major reasons today due to availability of water, clean air to breathe and temperature. They are disturbing the balance and the educated section of the country is ignoring it even after seeing all this.
When the United Nations Climate Convention was signed in Rio in 1992, the US opposed the imposition of any limits on greenhouse gases. In contrast, Washington always spoke of national sovereignty when it came to deciding which gas to reduce, how, how much and when. In 1997, the US, like most countries, agreed to accede to the Kyoto Treaty, which set binding emissions reduction targets only for wealthy countries, largely responsible for carbon pollution thought to be the source of global warming are held responsible. The US agreed to it after obtaining several concessions. Bill Clinton's Vice President Al Gore signed the treaty on behalf of the US in 1998, but the Democratic Administration never gathered the necessary two-thirds majority in the Senate for formal ratification of the treaty had got. And when George W. Bush became president after Bill Clinton, the whole situation changed. Like father George Bush, Junior Bush was also opposed to a treaty that in his view allowed developing countries to burn fossil fuels and grow their economy while the hands of wealthy countries were tied to emissions limits. The treaty began in 2005 without US involvement. With Russia's signature, 55 countries required to implement the treaty had signed it after ratification. Canada later withdrew from the treaty, while New Zealand, Japan and Russia did not participate in the second phase of carbon reduction. In 2009, countries around the world gathered for a new treaty to replace the Kyoto Protocol, in which all countries, including the US, China and India, were to take proactive steps to cut carbon. But the Copenhagen Conference failed amid differences over the sharing of burdens between rich and poor countries. With the support of some other countries, the US insisted that the deal should not be called a treaty. In the end, an informal agreement was reached at the meeting in which it was agreed to limit the average global warming to 2 degrees above pre-industrial levels, but no target of cutting emissions was set. The next goal was to have a global treaty by 2015 when US President Barack Obama, along with China's Xi Jinping, gathered 195 countries, including India, for a climate treaty. The emissions targets were said to be contributions rather than commitments, which enabled Obama to ratify the treaty. Now President Joe Biden is striving for this. According to a World Bank report released in September, more than 200 million people are likely to migrate over the next three decades because of extreme weather events or the slow degradation of their environments. Most are displaced within their home country.
India is getting hit by climate change. Due to the change in the nature of rain, many rivers in the Himalayan states have changed their course. Scientists are also agreeing that the weather has started behaving strangely. Several villages in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have been washed away in the last few decades. According to experts, many rivers have changed their course due to climate change. Northeast India receives a lot of rain. According to experts, the nature of rain has changed in the last few decades. Now it is raining heavily and for a long time. Because of this the rivers are getting flooded. Analysis of geological data has shown that some rivers have changed their course up to 300 meters away, while elsewhere they have moved 1.8 kilometers away. According to the Center for Science and Environment (CSE) based in New Delhi, the rainfall is well distributed throughout the year under normal climatic conditions. But now its nature has changed due to climate change.
If the increasing rate of environmental refuge is to be stopped, then first of all we have to stop all those works which are harming the environment. Trees will have to be saved and new trees will have to be planted and that plant will have to be protected honestly. The environment cannot be saved just by taking pictures and promoting in the media, for this, sincere efforts have to be made, if we also do not want to become an environmental refuge.

      Generally we advise the common man not to leave the tap open for a long time, spend water with care, save water etc-etc. But why not say anything about the people who irrigate large private lawns or build private home pools? Shouldn't they also be advised to save water? Roof top private pools are increasingly being used instead of roof water harvesting. How will the save water campaign be successful?

Home swimming pools became popular in the United States after World War II and the publicity given to swimming sports by Hollywood films such as Esther Williams' 'Million Dollar Mermaid' made a home pool a desirable status symbol. More than 50 years later, the home or residential swimming pool is a common sight. Today it wouldn’t cost a fortune to build your own private pool, even if you are living in a house as small as 250 sqmt in a metro. “The cost of a private pool comes between Rs 4-8 lakh for a normal size pool,” says Piyush Prakash, managing director of an architect group. His group has built over 100 private pools in India over the last few years. Amit Bahl, an associate of Mr Prakash says further that “One need not bother about the heavy upkeep and hygiene maintenance, thanks to the new easy-to-use gadgets.”

What is a small pool? While pool sizes and dimensions vary, anything that is approximately 10 feet by 10 feet or smaller is generally considered a small pool. In terms of depth, three feet is standard for soaking and swimming, and four to five feet and above is the best depth for lap pools. The smallest pool measuring 10 x 10 x 2.5 feet has a water capacity of 1,052 gallons. Should be remembering that 1 liter is equal to 0.264 gallon means 4782.487 liter.

A 12-by-24-foot rectangular pool with an average depth of 5 feet will hold approximately 10,800 gallons of water. A 16-by-32-foot pool with the same depth will hold about 19,200 gallons, and a 20-by-40-foot pool will hold 30,000 gallons.

Due to the lack of space on the ground floor, these days the trend of building a pool on the terrace or terrace has increased. Simply a rooftop swimming pool cost in India is Rs 900 to 1300 per square feet whereas A 10 ft diameter x 30 inches deep roof or terrace pool holds 3639 liters water.

The standard norm for domestic water usage in India is 135 liters per capita per day (lpcd), prescribed by the Central Public Health and Environmental Engineering Organization. So, the question is how much water should a family of 4 uses? Usually on average a family of 4 would use 12,000 gallons for bathing, cooking, washing, recreation and watering.

According to the latest report of the International Ground Water Resource Assessment Center (IGRC), there are 270 crore people in the whole world who face water crisis for 30 days in a whole year. According to the United Nations, if water consumption increases at the rate of one percent in the next three decades, then the world will have to go through a major water crisis. In India too, the groundwater level has been deteriorating rapidly for the last two-three decades. If we look at the figures of 2001, then the picture today is quite grim. The per capita ground water availability in India has reached 5,120 liters. This availability was 14,180 liters in 1951. Now it is only 35 percent of the availability of 1951. In 1991 it had reached half. According to estimates, by 2025, only 25 percent of groundwater will be left for per capita per day as compared to 1951. According to the data of the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB), this availability will reduce to only 22 percent by the year 2050. According to an important fact, on an average 321 billion gallons of water are used by humans every day. In this, 77 billion gallons of water are removed from within the earth alone. Statistics show that 1.6 billion people of the world are not getting pure drinking water.

According to a report, only 0.5 percent of the water on earth is usable and available fresh water. "The speed with which the Earth's temperature is increasing is also changing the accessibility of water, says the Secretary-General of the United Nations Meteorological Agency. The problem of drinking water in the villages is also no less acute. 90% of the population there is dependent on groundwater for drinking water. However, due to the increasing exploitation of groundwater for the agricultural sector, many villages are facing the problem of drinking water. Scientists are worried that water quality is declining in most areas of the world, and the species diversity and ecology of freshwater organisms is rapidly being damaged. Even compared to marine ecology, this erosion is more.

It is okay that if you have money you can spend it on your luxuries but not on the condition that it becomes an inconvenience to others. Everyone has a desire to take a bath in the pool and this desire can be fulfilled by going to the public pool. It is better to expand the public pool. This will not consume as much water as would be consumed by every thousandth house having a pool. If we look in our past, the remains of public pools have been found in the Indus Valley, which shows that public pools were practiced in the Indus civilization when all those cities were situated on the banks of the Indus River and had abundant availability of water. Yet they used water sparingly.

It is also true that these days a huge market for domestic private pools is developing. But there has to be a balance between the market and the basic needs. It seems as though we are getting into the habit of ignoring our basic shortcomings. There is a shortage of trees, yet the remaining trees are being cut and buildings are being built. There is no parking space yet still interested in buying the biggest car. Air pollution is increasing but we do not pay attention to it. Similarly, those who are getting clean drinking water do not have time to think about the pollution of drinking water.

Now when we know that a critical period of water crisis is going on, then we have to understand that there is no alternative to water, human existence is dependent on water, water is the basic basis of creation, water is food, If there is water, there is vegetation, there is no alternative to water, conservation of water is the only way to protect the environment, to recharge water is to produce water. We have to recognize that human need for water is more important than any other need. Overall, it has to be understood that if there is water, there is tomorrow.

While we consider cinema only as a means of entertainment, Hollywood has been making cinema on climate change for the last several decades. The sole purpose of these films is to show the impact of climate change and to warn of possible future dangers. It is not that a person entering the film industry does not want to earn money. Cinema makers on climate change also want to make money because their cinema costs not less than other commercial cinema, but sometimes more. Yet they take risks because they want to warn everyone about the dire effects of climate change. They are aware. Maybe more aware than us.

"Climate change is real. It is happening right now, it is the most urgent threat facing our entire species and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating." actor, environmentalist and philanthropist Leonardo Di Caprio said.
We can talk here about a few Hollywood movies based on climate change impacts.  'Racing Extinction' - It is based on evidence of flights like ocean acidification, rising temperatures, and CO2 emissions. In the 'Interstellar' movie, struggling to survive due to climatic, Dust Bowl-like conditions, the movie follows a group of astronauts in search of a new home for mankind, ultimately traveling through a wormhole to do so. FernGully: The Last Rainforest (1992)
The Day After Tomorrow (2004), An Inconvenient Truth (2006), The Day the Earth Stood Still (2008), Beasts of the Southern Wild (2012), Snowpiercer (2014), mother (2017), Chasing Coral (2017), The Hottest August (2017), Don't Look Up (2021). Few other movies are Twister, Geostorm, 2012 and Best Tsunami Movies are Deep Impact (1998), The Perfect Storm (2000), Tidal Wave (2009), Hereafter (2010), Immortals (2011). 
Several Showy Hollywood blockbusters have imagined a world devastated by climate change. In “The Day After Tomorrow” (2004), the most famous example of a “cli-fi” disaster film, the planet is beset by super storms, hurricanes and tsunamis. A paleoclimatologist must save his son as the globe is plunged into a new ice age. The basic plot of Day After Tomorrow is the beginning of an ice age over a large part of America, including New York, due to global warming. A group of students who had gone to New York to participate in a competition take shelter in a library to save their lives. Where precious books are burnt to escape from the cold. In the film 2012, the entire earth is hit by a tsunami due to global warming. Continents sink. Large ships built in secret by China give space to the world's most powerful and capitalists, while the general public is left to die. In this film, while on one hand the horrific effects of climate change have been shown, the cruel faces of administration and capitalism have also been exposed. It also draws attention to how the dangers of climate change are allowed to grow by capable countries in the pursuit of becoming superpowers.
Environmental devastation is the backdrop to dystopian stories, too—think of the desert world of “Mad Max: Fury Road”, the smog-filled city-scapes of “Blade Runner 2049” (2017) or the icy tundra of “Snowpiercer” (2013). Climate change may also be the Mac Guffin that forces characters to abandon Earth and seek a new home elsewhere, as in “Avatar” (2009) or “In Lincoln’s words still resonate to all of us here today: “We will be remembered in spite of ourselves. The fiery trial through which we pass will light us down, in honor or dishonor, to the last generation… We shall nobly save, or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth.” That is our charge now – you are the last best hope of Earth. We ask you to protect it. Or we – and all living things we cherish – are history." Actor and Director Leonardo Di Caprio spoke at the United Nations Summit.  
Leonardo Di Caprio, an Academy Award-winning actor, has been an outspoken advocate for environmental issues throughout much of his career. In 1998, at the age of 24, Di Caprio established his foundation with the mission of protecting the Earth’s last wild places and implementing solutions to build a more harmonious relationship between humanity and the natural world. Through grant making, public campaigns, and media projects, Di Caprio has worked to bring attention and funding to the protection of biodiversity, ocean and forest conservation, and climate change. The Leonardo Di Caprio Foundation supports over 35 innovative conservation projects around the world that protect fragile ecosystems and key species. Di Caprio also serves on the board of several environmental protection organizations including the World Wildlife Fund, the Natural Resources Defense Council, and International Fund for Animal Welfare, Pristine Seas and Oceans 5. He is also an advisor on The Solutions Project, an organization dedicated to scaling up the adoption of clean, renewable energy. In 2014, Di Caprio was honored with the prestigious Clinton Global Citizen Award for his philanthropic work. The Secretary-General designated Di Caprio as a Messenger of Peace with a special focus on climate change ahead of the 2014 Climate Summit, aimed at catalyzing and galvanizing climate action towards a global climate agreement in 2015.
Leonardo Di Caprio said he'd been looking to do a film about the climate crisis for a while but finding the right approach had proved difficult, until now.  “You either do some existential journey through a person's lifetime, or you make it a catastrophe movie where New York freezes over,” Di Caprio said.
How many actors in our country India have serious concerns on climate change and its impact? How many movies have we made on climate change? Do we have any data competitively with Hollywood? No, we have not because our Bollywood is not interested in this topic. Unfortunately our Filmmaker and directors centralize mainly on crime and political issues. Perhaps they thought that topics of environment and climate change are risky or they do not want to work hard. I can not understand that will climate change not affect them? They also live on this earth. Like Leonardo Di Caprio, no influential actor of our Bollywood even thinks of raising a strong voice about global warming until the government makes him the brand ambassador of climate change or environmental affairs or a commercial agency has contracted him. It's shameful for us.
Today we are all familiar with changing climate change. As a responsible citizen, it is the responsibility of us and every section to think seriously on this subject and pay attention to its publicity, so that an atmosphere of discussion can be created in this direction. Media and film industry can intervene in this matter much better, because today it has reach to every section. Looking at the reach of cinema, we can say that if a film on climate change comes today, it can get a good response from the people.

In the last two years, we have seen large forests of the world being set on fire. Saw their wildlife burning in smoke. He also heard the threat of disaster due to melting and breaking of glaciers in his country's Uttarakhand. It is sad that we are still ignoring the relationship between forest and human life.  Whereas the existence of earth and humans depends on forests and other creatures. We should remember that every creature is important to us.

We see very few species of birds around our house. Only those birds are able to walking with us, which are living fighting the waves of mobile phone towers and the pollution dissolved in the air. Some people think that what have these birds doing for us? Whereas the truth is that every living being is mutually useful to each other. Everyone knows that the biggest benefit of birds is that they help in pollination and seed distribution of plants. In daily life, birds maintain a positive environment with their melodious voice and their presence. Similarly, we ignore the earthworm. Earthworm specializes in fertilizing soil. Let's leave around the house, remember those wild animals which have reached the brink of extinction due to us humans. Lion, tiger, cheetah, leopard, and all four are predatory animals by nature but they keep their numbers in control by killing other animals in the forest like Asian antelope, deer, chital etc. But they do not hunt just for fun but to feed them and survive. If a lion has a full stomach, it never hunts. It is we humans who kept hunting in the list of entertainment and put many wild animal species in danger.

"You stop the clouds
And ask-
Where did you come from?
He will say - from the sea.
You ask the sea-
Where did you get the water?
He will say-
From rivers
Ask the rivers
From where did they get the water?
She will say-
From underground sources
Asking from underground sources-
How did you preserve water?
They would say-
Not us, the roots of those trees and trees
Who stopped the erosion of the land?
Shaped us
So that we can store water for the rivers
Understand now?
That's why the sea says-
Want to save this earth
So first save the trees,
If there are trees, then the earth will also be there.

    I wrote this poem in the year 2016 specially to speak while giving a lecture in a convention based on the topic "Literature, Earth and Environment". The event was organized by an NGO in Lucknow (U.P.). From school students to environmentalists participated in it. I recited this poem of mine along with my lecture in the first session. People liked it very much. But I don't know how many people followed its message. I mentioned this poem because it always keeps knocking in my heart and mind. 

Planet Earth is home to 8.7 million species, scientists estimate. Three-quarters of the 8.7m species – the majority of which are insects – are on land; only one-quarter, 2.2m, are in the deep, even though 70% of the Earth's surface is water. Nature is the companion of man.  Nature naturally provides healthy life to human beings through balanced environment.  Our sages were committed to the protection and development of nature.  He was knowledgeable about the scientific method of purifying the environment by eliminating air pollution through Yagya.  He also knew that nature naturally balances itself by excluding whatever is excess or indigestible. 

 In Indian culture, the Vanprastha Ashram determined under the ashram system was directly related to living in the forest. The elders living in the forest used the vegetation found in the forest. He used to be friends with wild animals and shared his experiences with his descendants. We should remember about Shakunlata and Dushyanta's son Bharata. According to the legend, Bharata lived in the sage's ashram with his mother Shakuntala. There he used to play among the wild animals. That is why holding him with both his hands, he was not afraid to open the lion's mouth. Because he was familiar with the nature of the lion. It is meant to say that we should try to become more familiar with the nature of animals, birds, insects and moths living on this earth with us. Only then can a good symbiosis go on on earth.

Just think why did Noah secure a couple of each animal species in his boat? Wasn't it enough for him to just save human? Because he knew that every species is necessary for the existence of the earth. The development of the environment on earth is not possible from human being which is necessary for the life of human beings.

In the last hundred years, human beings have taken long strides of progress in every direction of economic, physical and social life.  He had only one objective of progress in these areas – this would serve his own interest.  He did not pay any attention to the effects of this progress on the environment.  The things around the organisms which affect their life activities form the environment. We know that trees and plants give us oxygen to live. Then why do I ignore trees and plants?

So, nature is the basis of human life. Humans have been dependent on nature since the development of civilization and uses natural resources. In recent decades, human civilization has started to over-exploit natural resources. Large forests were destroyed. How many such animals were hunted to such an extent that they are on the verge of extinction and some even became extinct. Pollution is increasing continuously due to which negative changes are taking place in nature and catastrophic consequences like Global warming are being seen. According to scientists, sea creatures have been affected the most. Sea creatures are exploited the most, as well as the most pollution in the sea itself. As a result, hundreds of species in the coastal region are on the verge of extinction today.

WHO WANTS WAR? General public, grass, tree, flower, leaves, horse, cat, dog?  These create a range of biodiversity but they also never want war.  So who wants war? Don't pollute the environment by missiles & bomb.  Not only humans are killed in war, many trees, animals, birds are also killed by rockets and missiles. Does anyone have data on how many plants, how many birds, how many animals, how many insects are being killed every day due to war? And how much noise pollution is there?

We didn't see World War I, those born after 1945 didn't even see World War II, but have seen its horrors in the form of the effects of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which not only the then but also the later generation suffered. Our today's generation has seen the Iran-Iraq war, Afghanistan has been wounded by missiles, and the latest example is in front of us in Ukraine. The figures of casualties of soldiers and civilians are in front of our eyes every day. Who wants war? General public, grass, tree, flower, leaves, horse, cat, dog?  These create a range of biodiversity but they also never want war.  So who wants war? Don't pollute the environment by missiles & bomb.  Not only humans are killed in war, many trees, animals, birds are also killed by rockets and missiles.

It is estimated that only in Britain more than 750,000 pet cats and dogs were killed in the first week of World War II. A book written by Hilda Kean 'The British Cat and Dog Massacre: The Real Story of World War Two's Unknown Tragedy' tells us this horrible truth. It tells the story of the British pet massacre, the September 1939 time period at the start of World War II, when hundreds of thousands of British family pets were preemptively euthanized in anticipation of air raids and resource shortages. But it is also a bitter truth that this death was the wish of man and not of those domesticated animals. Humans were fighting a war, but innocent pets were put to death.

They were domesticated animals that were directly killed. But many animals were those that were used in war. The US military trained over 10,000 dogs for the war effort and sent some 2,000 overseas to serve in combat. Cats were used on ships, in barracks and in military field offices to help control rats. Many cats were killed along with humans. They also made extensive use of mules, horses, and even pigeons for various types of war-related jobs. During the First World War, horses were needed to perform cavalry roles, but were also vital for moving supplies, equipment, guns and ammunition. For the transportation these animals were used on a big scale. Eight million horses, donkeys and mules died in World War I, three-quarters of them from the extreme conditions they worked in. Dogs played an important military role for most European armies during World War I, serving in a variety of tasks. Dogs hauled machine guns and supply carts. They also served as messengers, often delivering their missives under a hail of fire. It is estimated that 484,143 only British horses, mules, camels and bullocks died between 1914 and 1918. Pigeons played a vital part in World War One as they proved to be an extremely reliable way of sending messages. Such was the importance of pigeons that over 100,000 were used in the war with an astonishing success rate of 95% getting through to their destination with their message. Unfortunately, a large number of pigeons were killed in the line of duty during the First World War.

Dolphins were used by the Navy in the South Pacific in World War II to guard ships and search for mines. Of course today, dolphins in the U.S. Newly related to the Navy, they are kept as important allies in guarding ships and searching for mines. But serving humans in this way is not the natural function of dolphins. That is, the creatures of water, land, and air were used by humans in the war. It was the use of those animals who were not concerned with war. They did not know about geo-borders or political greed.

World wars have had a profound effect on air and water as well. Oil contamination in the Atlantic Ocean due to World War II shipwrecks is estimated at over 15 million tonnes. Oil spills are difficult to clean up and take many years to clean. To this day, traces of oil can still be found in the Atlantic Ocean from the naval shipwrecks which happened during World War II. This is the tragic environmental impact of war. Undoubtedly, It is the tragic environmental impact of wars that include World War I, World War II, the Vietnam War, the Rwandan Civil War, the Kosovo War and the Gulf War that water and air were polluted by destroyers weapons.

The bombardment of cities and the destruction of forests, farms, transport systems and irrigation networks during World War II produced devastating environmental consequences. The environmental consequences of the Gulf War in 1991 affected the air, the marine environment, and the terrestrial ecosystem. In total over 84,000 tons of bombs were dropped over an area of about 4,000 square miles during 43 days of war. Hence most of the mangroves and marshes in the wetlands along the affected coast were destroyed by the oil. Fifty to 90% of the fauna of these areas, mainly crabs, amphipods and mollusks, were also killed by the oil spill.

The boundaries of the land can be changed by war. In a war one may win and the other may lose. But the environment which is destroyed by war, it is very difficult to restore it. Many years old trees get scorched, burnt, fall due to bombarding and missiles. Whereas new trees take years to grow and become mature. The air gets polluted. Rivers, ponds, and ocean water get polluted. In fact, war is not between humans but like a one-sided attack on the environment. It is better that we control our political greed and do not allow war to happen. But unfortunately we have suffered environmental damage with the horrors of the war in Ukraine.

The sculpture of Khajuraho, a world famous tourist destination called Kalatirth, is unique. The temples of Khajuraho are famous for their Mithun idols but in fact the entire life has been carved in those idols. Looking at the sculptures of Khajuraho, it is known that the people of Chandela were very much aware of nature and biodiversity. The temple walls of Khajuraho have more biodiversity than the Mithun sculptures. We must understand a message that has been left for us by the Chandelas. In this message, showing the presence of biodiversity in life, it has been told that every living being is important for human life.
 Today, when we talk about the environment and biodiversity, we feel that awareness has arisen within us about biodiversity, that is, our ancestors had not noticed this before us, this is our illusion because from the hymns of the Vedas to the There is a special mention and display of biodiversity till the sculptures of Khajuraho. Particularly in the sense that we have seen nature and its elements as mere biotic or non-living components whereas our ancestors revered them as an integral part of life, giving them divinity and giving by divinity a strong sense of protection. This is the reason that at the time of our ancestors, neither the forests were cut wildly nor nature was treated ruthlessly.

The
Chandelas built about 85 temples in Khajuraho. Presently there are about 25
temples out of them. The remains of another grand temple were found in the
excavation work done by the Archeological Survey of India in 1998-99. According
to scholars, the construction period of all these temples is between 950 to
1050 A.D. It is a pleasant feeling to see that the artists of the Chandela era
have beautifully displayed the creative and destructive emotions of humans as
well as biodiversity in these sculptures. This display of biodiversity on the
temple walls attests to the fact that there was an awareness of the environment
and biodiversity during the Chandela period. Khajuraho itself was named on a
botanical basis. Although two types of opinions are prevalent regarding the
naming of Khajuraho, but, in both the views it is believed that Khajuraho was
named because of Kharjoor i.e. date palm trees. According to the first opinion,
there were two golden palm trees at the gate of Khajuraho village. Hence the
name of the village was 'Kharjur' which means the one who wears dates, that is,
Khajuraho. According to the second opinion, this name was given due to the abundance of date trees in Khajuraho village where it was settled.

Due to the dense forest area around Khajuraho located in Bundelkhand, it was natural for the Chandel citizens to have awareness about the environment and biodiversity. Chandela sculptors have established their importance and their utility towards human life by giving humanized form to animals, birds, aquatics, vegetation, air, sun, moon etc. Along with this, the mutual relations of human beings with nature and various creatures have also been demonstrated minutely. The biodiversity displayed in the sculptures of Khajuraho can be mainly divided into two categories - 1. Original form and 2. Symbolic form.

The original form of biodiversity is depicted everywhere in the sculptures carved on the outer walls of the temple. Tree branches have been carved at the entrances of the temples. These branches have three types, Tri Shakha (three branches) , Pancha Shakha (five branches) and Sapta Shakha (seven branches). On these branches shown vines, flowers and motifs. Along with this, Kalpavriksha (divine tree)has also been carved. There are seven branches at the sanctum sanctorum of the Kandariya Mahadev temple. While most of the temples have Panch Shakhas. Flowers, leaves, erotic idols and ascetics absorbed in meditation have been made on these gate branches. On the lower end of these gate branches are the statues of Makar Vahini Ganga (River Goddess Ganga riding on a crocodile) and Kurma Vahini Yamuna (River Goddess Yamuna riding on a turtle) on the other side.

Apart from flowers, leaves, creepers, trees, trees have also been given a place. In the Lakshmana temple, a woman is shown standing under the shade of a mango tree. It signifies the mutual relationship between human and plant. Tree branches are inscribed near the woman painting in the Vamana temple, indicating that the woman is painting trees and plants on her canvas. Along with plants, animals and birds have also been given place in the sculptures of Khajuraho. The Nari idol, stored in the Khajuraho Museum, depicts a bird on the right palm. The Vishwanath temple has two female idols, one of which depicts a bird sitting on the wrist and the other one is shown munching on grains. Sarika bird in Jagdamba temple, parrot in Kandariya Mahadev, Maina in Vamana temple and Uluk (owl) in Lakshman temple are carved as pet birds. Birds like peacock, swan, and owl are also depicted as vehicle symbols. wild boar have been engraved. Apart from these, small animals like mice and mongooses have also been inscribed. Among the aquatic creatures, Fish, Shell, Turtle and Crocodile have been engraved as vehicle symbols. The uniqueness with which biodiversity is presented in the sculpture of Khajuraho is amazing. Venomous creatures have also been given place in these idols. The marking of different types of snakes and scorpions proves that the Chandela society gave equal importance to all forms of living beings. Every form of biodiversity has been presented by molding it in stone craft, whether it is the organic world or the non-living world.

The biodiversity inscribed in the sculpture of Khajuraho also gives a message that if the present life is to be made for worth living for many generations to come like the sculpture of Khajuraho, then all the elements necessary for life will have to be conserved. They will have to be saved from extinction, whether it is forest Be it wildlife or all kinds of animals and plants, all have to be protected. These must be saved from extinction. Understanding the importance of biodiversity, like the sculptures of Khajuraho, we have to save our present and future and in this direction, the sculpture art of the biodiversity present in the sculptures of Khajuraho is a source of inspiration for us.

It is for us to decide whether we want good or bad from nature.  Because nature returns us a manifold of what we entrust to it. It is the nature of Nature.

4 weeks ago I found a sprouted potato in my fridge so I planted it in the soil in a poly bag.  Only water was given.  Today when I searched its roots, I found 5-6 small potatoes.  And if I will be take it late, I will probably got as big potatoes as I planted one.

We entrust a grain of wheat to nature and a plant grows from that grain.  There are dozens of wheat spikes in that one plant.  There are hundreds of grains of wheat in those dozens of earrings.  This is yet another example of how nature returns us manifold.  This is the nature of nature.  That is why when we entrust nature with something good, it gives us good, but when we entrust something bad, it returns us bad.  You will remember the Mumbai floods. In Mumbai, we handed over choked drains from polythene bags to rain water.  As a result we got floods.

When we are continuously giving pollution to nature and playing with the greenhouse of the atmosphere, then how can we expect pure air from nature? Many harmful gases and particles are present in the smoke coming out of factories, which enter the atmosphere and spread air pollution.  The air quality is deteriorating due to the continuous mixing of nitrogen, sulphur, carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide gases in the air.  Air pollution is extremely dangerous for the health of humans and other living beings.  Air pollution is considered to be the biggest responsible factor for haze and acid rain in the atmosphere.  Air pollution is continuously giving rise to the problem of global warming by damaging the ozone layer.  It is dangerous to the health of organisms and ecosystems.  Most of the air pollution is caused by chemicals, dust, vehicular smoke and harmful gases present in the environment. According to an estimate, the amount of oxygen it takes to breathe 1135 people in a minute is equal to the pollution spread by a motor vehicle.  Nitrogen oxides and nitrogen dioxide are also produced by the burning of diesel and petrol in vehicles, which combine with hydrocarbons in sunlight to produce a chemical haze.  Carbon monoxide gas emitted from air conditioners and vehicles in cities is also increasing air pollutants.

With the increase in the amount of acid in the soil due to the use of chemical fertilizers, now there is a shortage of micronutrients like zinc and boron.  Its adverse effect is falling on the soil, it is also affecting the health of human beings.  By adding chemical fertilizers, the land gives one or two yields, after that the land is not able to uniform the production continuously, the main reason for this is that due to the misuse of the power of the land due to the use of chemical fertilizers in large quantities, there is a decrease in the continuous production. By using chemical fertilizers and seeds, we may get a quick crop, but it will neither be a good crop, nor beneficial for the farmers.

In the greed of growing vegetables in large quantities, some people are not missing out on using oxytocin, a drug used by animals. Doctors say that instead of organic manure, the consumption of these green vegetables grown on the strength of chemical elements can harm health. This can lead to fatal diseases like cancer, digestive and heart disease. Vegetables such as fresh, green gourd, luffa, pumpkin, nanua, brinjal, capsicum etc. are being grown in abundance in the shops even in the off season.  Many such medicines and injections have come in the market with hybrid seeds, using which such vegetables are produced much ahead of time.  But their side effects have also been seen on human hormones.

Same is the case with milk production.  In order to increase the milk of cows and buffaloes, injections called oxytocin are being used indiscriminately.  Due to this, the milk becomes thick but it is also harmful for human beings.

That is why we should always remember that whatever we give to nature, it returns us by multiplying it manifold, so we should give the best to nature if we want to get good for ourselves.

The Corona pandemic has given us many lessons but it is difficult to say how much we learned from them. During the last lockdown, when life came to a standstill, air pollution had also reached its lowest level. This proved that we citizens have the biggest hand in increasing air pollution. So do we need epidemics to reduce air pollution? Time has come for us to decide whether we want pure air or impure air?

Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a nationwide lockdown was imposed in India initially for three weeks from 24th March to 14th April 2020 and extended up to 3rd May 2020. Due to the forced restrictions, pollution levels in cities across the country drastically slowed down within just a few days. The results demonstrated that during lockdown air quality was significantly improved. The Corona pandemic has given us many lessons but it is difficult to say how much we learned from them. During the last lockdown, when life came to a standstill, air pollution had also reached its lowest level. This proved that we citizens have the biggest hand in increasing air pollution. So do we need epidemics to reduce air pollution?

By the way, contemplating on air pollution is in the same way that first we put doctors out of work and then start worrying about the patient. Yes, the natural elements that control air pollution the most are trees. But we have allowed trees to be cut to increase our concrete empire and today we are hoping that we get pure air. Looking at the open drains and piles of garbage chuckling with dirt, we still hope that we get clean air. This is more than deceiving ourselves and if anything, it is the crime we are committing towards our future generation. In 2015 alone, 3.5 lakh children died of asthma due to vehicular air pollution in India. After the publication of this report, did any awareness emerge about the maintenance of vehicles or pollution control in our country on the basis of air pollution? Simply, a concrete step was taken that vehicles older than 15 years were banned on the road. While the number of vehicles increased by a hundredfold. In India, mainly petrol and diesel are used as fuel in many vehicles. In India, mainly petrol and diesel are used as fuel in many vehicles. The smoke emitted from these vehicles contains toxic gases like carbon-di-oxide, carbon-monoxide, which are fatal to the health of humans and animals. People get respiratory diseases due to the heavy poison that is continuously dissolved in the air. Many of these are incurable. It is common for the eyes to get irritated from the fumes of the vehicles. The smoke of vehicles comes out from the end of the tube of their silencer, whose mouth remains towards the rear of the vehicles. Toxic substances dissolve in the air backwards. This smoke and dirty dust enter the nose of the people and have a fatal effect. The most lethal situation is when the waiting vehicles are standing due to a red light at the intersections, their engine keeps running and the smoke coming out of them becomes so deep that along with burning in the eyes, cough also starts.

We brought a flood of cars to our cities and settlements but we still haven't learned to 'carpool'. Whereas 'carpool' is the method in which employees going in the same office or in the same direction share the same car. One's car is used every day, which reduces fuel consumption and also reduces the number of vehicles on the road. In this method there is no burden on any one person. But like to show off, we believe more in showcasing our opulence by ignoring the dangers of car advancement.

An alternative to conventional fuel-powered vehicles has emerged in the form of electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are now being promoted in our country. The government is also giving concessions on these vehicles. But the biggest obstacle in the rise of electric vehicles is the lack of charging stations. This requires a network of charging stations. Only then can it be expected that the trend of electric vehicles will increase. Along with this, if we want the level of air pollution to remain low, then we have to make changes in our daily habits. Time has come for us to decide whether we want pure air or impure air?

Population census always shows the population of humans in the city but what is the number of trees in the city? No one asks about this and no one wants to know. Trees are cut to widen roads, trees are cut to build residential and commercial buildings. In return, how many trees are planted inside the city? Don't know the figure. Whereas one can save from the loss of wildly carbon emissions and rising temperatures, then only trees. That is why the government made the plan of 'Urban Forest'. But where are those urban forests?

Before discussing the need for an 'urban forest', recall the incident in October 2019 when the Aarey Milk Colony in suburban Mumbai, known as the 'Green Lung' of the city, fell victim to urban development. In fact, the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation cut 3,000 trees in the area to pave the way for the train depot. According to a scientific report, this place is home to 86 species of butterflies, 90 species of spiders, 46 species of reptiles, 34 species of wild flowers and nine leopards. There was public outcry about this. The Supreme Court asked the Maharashtra government to intervene. But by then the Mumbai Metro had cut enough trees to clear the required land. Ironically, the forest department, which has this understanding, has a lower status than the town planning departments of states and cities. Even so, the forest area is shrinking due to the expansion of cities.

What is almost not known to common citizens is that the Government of India is emphasizing on promoting 'smart solutions' based on state-of-the-art technology for the development of cities. It is realizing the need for coordinated efforts of all sections of the society, organizations and government institutions to tackle the challenge of environmental management and climate change. The entire focus of the Central Government is on promoting those schemes which are environment friendly. So that cities can be adapted to the possible consequences of climate change. For this, the government is promoting 'smart solutions' based on state-of-the-art technology.

If seen, urban forest planning is a very effective plan to slow down the pace of climate change and reduce urban pollution. Urban forests can improve the climate of cities. Trees help the most in reducing the temperature in cities. The heat from concrete buildings and streets in cities makes them hotter than the surrounding countryside. They also reduce ozone, sulfur dioxide and particulate matter levels. Apart from this, removing a large amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere gives oxygen. Trees work to increase oxygen by absorbing this carbon dioxide. These trees can become an integral part of Yahar's life in the form of urban forest. Urban forests can also compensate for the loss that is being caused by the reduction of forest areas. These types of urban forests are being developed very rapidly in large cities all over the world. Seoul, Singapore and Bangkok have created green corridors that provide space for nature and wildlife while improving the lives of their city residents.

Now if we talk about the cities of Madhya Pradesh, the city is currently away from the intense industrial pollution, but for economic development one cannot always stay away from the industries. This city has lost many of its trees in building construction, widening of roads etc. The cities of Madhya Pradesh also have less number of trees in comparison to population and vehicles. Ever since the Smart City scheme has been implemented, immediate attention has been paid towards waste management. Awareness has also come about pollution caused by vehicles. But this is not enough. The percentage of pollution we are facing globally is not enough. Keeping in view the future development, urban forest planning needs to be implemented rapidly as a smart solution. Trees do not grow enough in a day to be ready to deal with pollution. We cannot cut the level of air pollution and temperature by making some amusement parks or planting flowers on the road dividers. For this, it is necessary to identify the area for urban forest and plant trees which are dense and can help in reducing the amount of air and global warming. It is also necessary to run a public awareness campaign in this direction so that the citizens do not damage the urban forest plan due to ignorance. In fact, urban forests are essential for all types of cities, big or small. It should always be remembered that if there are trees, there is oxygen and if there is oxygen, then there are breaths. Urban forests can also play an important role in maintaining the ecosystem of the city.

Change in weather and climate is a topic that we do not even consider as much as politics, cinema, fashion and TV serials. While all these things are not as basic as climate and weather. Every moment of our life is affected by climate and weather. If the weather is erratic then it has a direct impact on the agricultural yield. Our household budgets depend on the price of agricultural produce. The migration of people from villages also depends on whether there is good yield or not. Even drinking water depends on the weather. So shouldn't we keep the causes of climate change on our priority list?

There are many such things in our daily life which remain unseen even after looking ridiculous. Let me tell you an incident that one day I got an opportunity to visit their traffic control room on the invitation of the Smart City office. Various squares of the city were visible on the big screen. The scene was impressive. Zooming to a crossroads, the employee there enthusiastically informed me that "Look, the cow that is seen on the intersection, I can get that cow removed from there by instructing the traffic man right now. It was clear that he was telling the merits of his system but it came out of my mouth that "when this is a smart city system then stray animals should not be on the roads or squares." He felt bad after hearing me. He got annoyed. He found my words in vain. He was trying to tell me the quality, only that I should have understood, at least that is what he expected from me. Although this was not unnecessary. Stray animals cause accidents on the roads every day. Animals get hurt and humans too. But we do not consider this problem to be of primary level. Similarly, if someone is told that due to global warming, glaciers are melting and due to this the sea level is rising, then people think that what does this mean to us? Worry about those who live by the sea. In fact, we are so much entangled in our everyday life that we are forgetting the habit of thinking about the future. Whereas our future depends on our weather, our climate and our habits. 

A report of the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MOES), Government of India said that the India’s average temperature has risen by around 0.7°C during 1901–2018. This rise in temperature is largely on account of GHG-induced warming. In the recent 30-year period (1986–2015), temperatures of the warmest day and the coldest night of the year have risen by about 0.63°C and 0.4°C, respectively. By the end of the twenty-first century, these temperatures are projected to rise by approximately 4.7°C and 5.5°C, respectively, relative to the corresponding temperatures in the recent past (1976–2005 average). The overall decrease of seasonal summer monsoon rainfall during the last 6–7 decades has led to an increased propensity for droughts over India. Both the frequency and spatial extent of droughts have increased significantly during 1951–2016. In particular, areas over central India, southwest coast, southern peninsula and north-eastern India have experienced more than 2 droughts per decade, on average, during this period. The area affected by drought has also increased by 1.3% per decade over the same period.

At one time all climate change used to be natural. But since the Industrial Revolution came, as a result of which a large amount of goods started being produced by machines. Machines require energy to run. Most of the energy for this comes from fuels like coal and oil, which are called 'fossil fuels'. Carbon dioxide is emitted into the air when these fossil fuels are burned. Along with industrialization, emissions of air like carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, chlorofluorocarbons, nitrous oxide have also increased. These winds are called 'greenhouse gases'. In the past few decades, our activities have resulted in the release of vast amounts of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. There is no doubt that in today's time humans are responsible for climate change.

The crisis of climate change is big but we have kept it on the margins. Take a small example of air pollution that we brought a flood of cars to our cities but we still haven't learned to 'carpool'. Whereas 'carpool' is the method in which employees going in the same office or in the same direction share the same car. One's car is used every day, which reduces fuel consumption and also reduces the number of vehicles on the road. In this method there is no burden on any one person. But like to show off, we believe more in showcasing our opulence by ignoring the dangers of car advancement. We have to change our habits in such a way that the weather can get a chance to improve. That is, the rate of tree plantation will have to be increased, water management will have to be improved and we will have to contribute in stopping all kinds of pollution. Overall, the issue of weather and climate change which is marginalized has to be brought up to the headlines.

Set a target of 3 'R' in the New Year for a healthy environment

 Every New Year brings some new hopes and new goals for every person. Every person sets some goals for himself in the New Year. There should be some goals which are personal as well as useful for society and the environment. By doing this you will not only get peace but will also get a clean environment. To set such a goal, only three "R's" have to be adopted. If adopted sincerely, then goals like health, prosperity and cleanliness will be fulfilled automatically.

Whether it is household waste or e-waste, both harm the environment.  On top of that, waste management in developing countries has not been efficient enough.  The success of government or administrative waste management is also dependent on the awareness of us citizens. So adopt the three R's - Reduce, Reuse and Recycle in the New Year and save the environment.

 It is important for every citizen to understand their responsibility towards waste management. Just imagine that a person throwing garbage on the other side of the road outside his house thinking that he is now safe from dirt, then this is his biggest mistake. Garbage is thrown anywhere nearby, when it decomposes, its odor spreads everywhere and mosquitoes, flies and viruses that grow in it also spread everywhere.

The biggest crisis that the last few years have given us is that of environmental imbalance. Environment is not just air, water and sunlight but the whole environment that surrounds us, in which we live, breathe, eat and drink, move around, and wish to be healthy. Now if this environment will not remain clean and balanced then how will our life be balanced? Various diseases will surround us, the weather will not change on its own time, the dearth of food items will increase and inflation will increase. All these things seem strange to say and hear, but one should remember that exodus of farmers who could not do agriculture due to lack of rain, lack of water and left their village, farm and went to the city to work. Farmers face such crisis almost every year. The people living in the city and town are unable to find their role in it, whereas indirectly every citizen is responsible for it. This is a small example that we are very happy to have wooden furniture made. For which one to five trees are cut. The wood commonly used in furniture is of teak and rosewood. Whereas a teak tree takes at least 6 to 15 years to become an adult. Where teak is being grown in agriculture, it is fine, but illegal cutting of forests is also used secretly to make furniture, which damages the forests. These forests are our oxygen store. It is wrong to even knowingly or unknowingly encourage illegal harvesting for the sake of decoration of your home or even little material pleasure. We can reduce the rate of felling of trees by using furniture made of recycled and reusable materials.

Reduce means we limit our needs. Buy only what we need. It is better to buy only the necessary things than to buy unnecessary things and throw them in the garbage later. Due to this unnecessary waste will not be generated and there will be no wastage of money. By saving such money, we can put it to some good use i.e. saving as well as a clean environment.

Reuse means to use an item again. We can also reuse any of our goods or we can give, sell those goods to another person for use. We can buy reusable goods for ourselves. That's why garage-sales are popular in America. The unused items of your house are sold by setting up shop in the premises or garage of your house. Many items are reused in this method. It's an interesting and useful way to get rid of or get rid of reusable stuff.

Recycle means that if it is lying in the garbage heap, then it is of no use, but if it is converted into a recyclable form, then it becomes an object of use. For example, broken plastic, old paper, old clothes etc. are collected and put in the recycling garbage, then it is sent to the recycling center where it is re-formed into new usable items by chemical process. Therefore, while throwing garbage, we should keep in mind which garbage we have to put in the recycled garbage bin. If recyclable dustbins are not kept in any area, a demand should be made to place them there.

Due to lack of knowledge of proper management of waste and lack of awareness about the environment, we unknowingly become the culprits of environmental imbalance. Therefore, keeping yourself aware, adopt the three 'R's and create a healthy, safe environment for yourself and the coming generation. This should be our resolution for this New Year.
