Seven Goals for New Year For A Healthy Climate

*As the New Year begins, we set some new goals for ourselves. For example, will work a lot in the New Year, will not be lazy, will lose weight etc. These are very personal goals. This time some goals should also be set which are not only for us but for the betterment of the whole world. We know that climate change is happening rapidly. Due to this, imbalance is coming in the environment and seasons. If we wish, we can slow down this pace of climate change and increase the life span of the earth and every living being on the earth. So come and let's do this!*
The health of our earth is gradually deteriorating. She is suffocating, she is drying up, and she is getting hot because fatal changes in climate have begun. If the climate is healthy then the earth will also be healthy. The time is not yet out of hand, if we wish, we can improve the health of the climate. By simply setting seven goals and completing them, we can improve the health of the climate. The United Nations and climate change committees have set many targets, some of which have duration of 10 years, some 20 years and some 50 years. Big goals want big time. But by setting small goals for ourselves, we can make a big contribution in a short time to slow down the pace of climate change. We know that India is on track to meet the non-fossil fuel target by increasing nuclear power and hydropower, but the country has short-term goals such as installing 175 gig watts of renewable energy by the end of 2022, which is enough to power up to 131 The millionth house has not been completed. But we can contribute to this goal by reducing our electricity consumption, by changing the source of electricity.
Every one of us can help limit global warming and take care of our planet. By making choices that have less harmful effects on the environment, we can be part of the solution and influence change. Every thing depends on us. The electricity we use, the food we eat, the way we travel, and the things we buy all contribute to a person’s “carbon footprint,” the amount of greenhouse gas emissions associated with an individual’s activities. We can start to set with these seven goals to tackle the climate crisis- 1. Save energy at home 2. Walk, bike, or take public transport 3. Eat more vegetables 4. Throw away less food 5. Reduce, reuse, repair, recycle 6. Change your home's source of energy 7. Switch to an electric vehicle.
1. Save energy at home - We use a lot of energy in our homes and commercial buildings. In fact, studies show that the energy supply sector accounts for 35% of global emissions, the largest contributor to global greenhouse gas emissions! This is mainly because most countries still rely on fossil fuels for energy and buildings and homes consume a lot of energy in the form of heating and cooling, among others.. When we burn fossil fuels to produce electricity, carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere which leads to climate change. Heating and cooling our homes requires the most energy and significantly contributes to global carbon emissions. We can reduce the energy burden by using the thermostat techniques in building material to a lower temperature in the winter and using it to a higher temperature in the summer.
2. Walk, bike, or take public transport - Is it better to walk or cycle than travel by car? Yes! Walking, cycling and even using public transport are all more physically active than using the car, so switching to one of these modes of transport can help you be more active and healthy. It can help in reducing the use of fissile fuel and improve our health.
3. Eat more vegetables - Switching to a vegetarian or vegan diet is one of the most effective ways to shrink your food carbon footprint. A 2018 report concluded that avoiding meat and dairy is the single biggest way to reduce your environmental impact on the planet. An Oxford University study, published in the journal Climatic Change, shows that meat-eaters are responsible for almost twice as many dietary greenhouse-gas emissions per day as vegetarians.
4. Throw away less food - About 6%-8% of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions could be reduced if we stop wasting food. Waste prevention and smart shopping are even more effective at reducing greenhouse gas emissions that result from energy consumption. When we buy less or reuse products, less energy is needed to extract, transport and process materials to manufacture products.
5. Reduce, reuse, repair, recycle - Reducing, reusing and recycling waste helps save landfill space by keeping useful materials out. Actually, by reducing, reusing, and recycling, we: decrease air and water pollution from waste disposal, conserve materials for continuous reuse in making new products, and reduce demand for mining and extraction of materials.
6. Change your home's source of energy - When fossil fuels are burned, they release large amounts of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, into the air. Greenhouse gasses trap heat in our atmosphere, causing global warming. Fossil fuels, such as coal, oil and gas, are by far the largest contributor to global climate change, accounting for over 75 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions and nearly 90 percent of all carbon dioxide emissions. While solar, wind, hydroelectric, biomass, and geothermal power can provide energy without the planet-warming effects of fossil fuels. So, switching our home from oil, gas or coal-powered energy to renewable sources of energy, such as wind or solar, can reduce our carbon footprint by up to 1.5 tons of CO2 per year.
7. Switch to an electric vehicle - We can switch to an electric vehicle to save the environment. Owning an electric vehicle can eliminate air pollution as it does not emit smoke or dangerous exhaust fumes. Besides, electric vehicles are a friend of the ecosystem. They are the world leader in zero pollution. To summarize, electric vehicles are more efficient and emit less emissions than gasoline engines.
Let us take action not only for ourselves but for each and every person living on our planet, this will give us not only a better environment but also inner happiness. So, let us not limit these goals to ourselves only, but inspire everyone to adopt them. Speak up and get others to join in taking action. Talk about climate change more and more. Seven goals of our New Year can improve the health of our climate.
